Responsibilities include: assisting with daily activities, dressing and, potentially in the future, bathing, which is currently managed by the parents. The caregiver will handle all tasks related to the daughter’s care, including cleaning her room and bath and managing her laundry. Cooking simple, nutritious meals and snacks for her is a key responsibility – cooking occasionally for the parents is a plus. The caregiver will also run household errands, do grocery shopping for the family, and be asked to do light housekeeping in the apartment. The family has a primary housekeeper several days a week for deep cleaning of the general household but the caregiver is expected to pitch in with supplementary light housekeeping as well.

The caregiver must be comfortable communicating via text, as this a key way of communicating with the parents when outside the home. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum, particularly those with behavioral challenges. They should be calm, patient, and capable of managing agitation or distress with a steady demeanor. Strong communication skills in English are required, as the adult is verbal but not fully conversational. The candidate should be physically fit as the adult, who is petite but strong, can walk sometimes at a brisk pace, and the caregiver should be able to keep up with her. The family seeks someone who is polished, professional, and adaptable to the household’s evolving needs. A team player willing to step in and assist wherever necessary is essential.
