Position: Full Time, House Manager, Household Assistant

A family, in Fairfield County, Connecticut needs to hire an experienced House Manager & Household Assistant to oversee the day-to-day operation, organization, and care of their property. Responsibilities include: overseeing the overall condition and organization of the residence, household shopping, provisioning, & inventory, maintaining beautifully organized spaces, assisting with events and preparing the property for guests, light daily household upkeep, assisting with simple meal preparation, coordinating routine household maintenance, overseeing the home when the principals travel, and proactively identifying and addressing issues throughout the property. The House Manager/ Household Assistant will also be responsible for the thoughtful care and preservation of antiques, natural-fiber textiles, furnishings, and other specialty household items, and should be comfortable managing the unique maintenance needs of an older, historically significant property. This is a senior household management and stewardship position best suited to a seasoned private service professional with significant experience managing formal or high-end residences. The family employs a part-time housekeeping team to support the day-to-day upkeep of the home. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented and hospitality/ service-oriented, with excellent communication, interpersonal, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills. While the children are in school, the role is focused on project management, organization, inventory, and planning ahead. Once the children return home, the Nanny’s focus shifts fully to hands-on childcare, including homework support, transportation to activities, engaging play and conversation, and overseeing afternoon and evening routines. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, flexible, and comfortable working as part of a collaborative childcare team and additional household staff. Previous experience in a high-functioning private household is strongly preferred, as is a Bachelor’s degree. Flexibility is required during school holidays, extended breaks, travel, sports tournaments, and other periods when the children are not following their regular school schedule. The family aims to keep the rotation as consistent as possible, though occasional schedule adjustments or additional coverage may be needed. During the school year, the two Nannies alternate schedules so that one week consists of working Monday–Tuesday and Friday–Sunday, followed by a lighter week of working Wednesday–Thursday. The rotation then repeats, providing each Nanny with alternating weekends off. Weekday hours are generally 6am through bedtime (around 9:30pm), while Saturday and Sunday generally begin around 7am, depending on the day and continue through bedtime. During the summer, the family relocates to the Hamptons and the position transitions to a live-in 7 days on / 7 days off rotation, generally from approximately 7am through bedtime, typically around 9:30pm. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and passport and be willing to travel domestically and internationally with the family. This is a live out role, though the family is open to those who may need to relocate to South Florida.
