Job Listing: Payroll Specialist

Position:
Location: Manhattan, New York

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to join our team!  Primary responsibilities include weekly payroll processing for 150+ clients, assisting with quarterly tax filings, updating client and employee records, onboarding new clients and responding to payroll inquiries.  Qualified candidates will be highly organized, detail-oriented, computer and tech savvy, and an excellent communicator with a professional demeanor and phone presence.  Superb follow-up skills and the ability to work both in a team and independently, with little direction, is essential for success in this role.  Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat is required.  Payroll service bureau experience a plus.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Manage daily and weekly workflow to ensure payrolls are processed timely and accurately
  • Assist with weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual tax payments and tax filings across all local, state and federal jurisdictions
  • Track and process payroll change requests
  • Promptly respond to payroll inquiries
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies
  • Update client and employee records
  • Assist with onboarding of new clients
  • Recommend and implement improvements to the payroll process
  • Maintain organized electronic files and payroll records

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 3 to 5 years of related experience
  • Must be highly organized with extreme attention to detail and strong follow up skills
  • Process driven, yet able to be resourceful and adaptable
  • Maintain the highest level of professionalism and customer service
  • Strong proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat required
  • Able to multi-task and adjust to shifting priorities, demands and timelines
  • Punctuality and flexibility with hours in order to meet deadlines
  • Maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
  • Effective and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work with little supervision
  • Knowledge of payroll compliance laws a plus
  • Experience with payroll software a plus
  • Experience handling multiple employer accounts a plus
