A New York family, with a second home in Vermont, needs to hire an experienced Nanny/ Governess to handle full charge care of their oldest child (a teenager) while they attend school. This person will be an extension of the parents and will work closely with and coordinate with them regularly. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: seeing the child off in the morning, handling household shopping, transporting the child, keeping track of their busy sports/ activity schedule, helping the child pack for events & travel, keeping the home tidy (the family has a housekeeper for major cleaning), preparing simple meals, ensuring the child does homework, and enforcing/ instilling the family’s expectations for the child’s growth (i.e. ensuring they do their chores). While the child is a teenager and therefore, mostly self-sufficient, the family needs a mature presence in the home to be responsible for the child’s overall well-being and safety.
All applicants must have solid childcare experience, be safe & experienced drivers (especially in winter weather), be vaccinated, and be able to provide a flexible schedule. The family spends at least one week per month at the secondary home and whenever they are present, or the child is back home in NYC or traveling for school, the Governess will have plenty of time off, as well as downtime during the day (during school) to have time to themselves. While the family cannot provide a firm daily/ weekly schedule, they want to be as flexible as possible about making sure the Governess is well taken care of and has time off and they are happy to coordinate an amenable work schedule with the new hire. A part-time housekeeper will be maintaining the home and there is also an option for a chef to drop off some weekly meals to shift some of the responsibilities. One example of a possible schedule would be working 3 weeks and taking one week off with almost 2 months off around the holidays, as well as weeks off here and there. Salary range: 120-160K. Benefits offered. Ideally seeking an August 2023 start.
