This recent graduate of SUNY New Paltz has a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with a concentration in English. She is currently awaiting proof of teaching certification while pursuing a master’s degree. She has been caring for children for more than a decade in various jobs such as after school programs, babysitter, nanny, teaching assistant, student teaching, co-teaching, volunteer work, and she currently work as a preschool teacher.
Her passion is working with children to help them to achieve their developmental and educational goals. Her dream has always been to be a teacher, and this pandemic has helped her realize that teaching is not limited to a classroom. When schools shut down, she had to say goodbye to her preschool class earlier than expected. However, she gained an opportunity to become a nanny/governess for one of her student’s families. She adapted and worked hand-in-hand with the parents to continue the children’s development through appropriate educational activities. She learned that any space could be turned into a classroom; a living room, kitchen, backyard, or a park. Most importantly, she became so much more than just a teacher for those children and their parents. We became like family. Working in a home, she learned she can continue her passion for teaching and form an even deeper bond with children and their parents than she ever could through working in a school setting.
She was born and raised in Hudson Valley her entire life. She is the youngest of 4 children and came from a large but close-knit family who love to celebrate every holiday. As a teen, she was the family babysitter for all my cousins, from infants through elementary age. She is an animal lover of all species, sizes, and shapes, from dogs to frogs to guinea pigs. Other interests include learning, teaching, swimming, biking, archery, photography, traveling, reading, arts & crafts, science, and countless others.
